CBD OIL – Yes or No?

What is CBD Oil?

CBD is shortened for cannabidiol, which is one of the naturally occurring cannabinoids found in the cannabis sativa plant. CBD may be obtained from both hemp and marijuana plants as they are both variations of the cannabis sativa plant. Their difference emerges when one considers the THC content. THC, another naturally occurring cannabinoid, is credited for the ‘high’ feeling which cannabis users speak of.

However, CBD is a non-psychoactive compound and is most notable for its healing effects. CBD oil is derived mainly from hemp varieties of the plant, although it is exactly the same in the marijuana variety. CBD is extracted from the cannabis plant and is then diluted in a carrier oil such as coconut or hemp seed oil. Thus it is manufactured also as tinctures, capsules, sprays, edibles, powder forms, topicals, and concentrates.

The research is proving that the CBD cannabinoid can be used to treat and remedy numerous illness which at one point were considered untreatable. Such illnesses include but are not by any means limited to, anxiety, diabetes, depression, heart disease, IBS, epilepsy, acne, multiple sclerosis, and inflammation.

  • Ingested

The most active ingredients in CBD oil are best absorbed into the bloodstream if held beneath the tongue for 60-90 seconds. The thin tissue beneath the tongue plus the secretions of the salivary glands quicken the absorption process. Besides digestion begins in the mouth, therefore ingestion through the mouth would get the CBD oil into the bloodstream at a faster rate. Whatever is left after the given timeframe can be swallowed to enter the system through the digestive tract.

  • Added to Food & Beverages

Instead of spiking your fruity drinks with alcohol, how about a few drops of CBD oil instead. A few drops of CBD oil can be added, for example, to delicious smoothies or salads.

  • Vaped

You guessed it. I can also be used in the ‘vape’. For those of you unfamiliar with the process, it’s really simple. A ‘vape’ is an electronic cigarette which heats the desired liquid to create a vapor which is inhaled by the user.
